Smithvillesteve Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 A good friend of mine is in the market for a new depth sounder. I told him i would go on here and ask you boys what you think. This guy is very cheap! His wife gives him an allowance!! But lets not go there today. He just needs a very basic unit. Water depth with contour and a temp gauge is all he needs. I always value your opinions on fishing gear here on Ozarkanglers.com. Thanks.
Blll Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 I've been happy with my HB Helix. If a small size (5") will work I think the basic unit is under $300. Pretty straightforward and clear. JMO Codywskeeter1521 1
fshndoug Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 what he needs is a long string with a rock.Stick your finger in the water for the temp gage.going cheap with electronics does't get it.
176champion Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Helix 5 DI is around 245 and a helix 5 sonar is around 199......i have a hummingbird piranha 155 on my bow and paid like 65 bucks from walmart for it..it works has temp and shows fish and bottom...but you get what you pay for also .... I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
dtrs5kprs Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Some of the Lowrance 7" chirp models are on sale at several places. That extra size is worth another $50-100. Champ188 1
Smithvillesteve Posted July 19, 2016 Author Posted July 19, 2016 Thanks boys! I will forward him this information. Stay cool!!
jdmidwest Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I picked up a HB 898 with downscan and sidefinder for $300 last month after rebate on Gander Mtn. Nice little unit with a moderate sized transducer. Nice clear sharp pic with 3 year old tech. dtrs5kprs 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
