put in about an hour before dark to scout around and see what depth the bait seemed to be.  nothing past 20 ft. in the areas we looked. caught two nice chunks on a 1/2 oz. jig, just as it was getting dark, and then struggled for a while and could not buy a bite of any kind.  we tried a variety of stuff.  i finally moved out on a flat.  put the boat in 20 ft. of water and put on a 1/2 SpinJig with a #7 colorado blade.  i was pulling it off the bottom and letting it coast back and that was the trick.  that produced 5 more keeps.  then fished a bluff end ledge out in the lake before we quit and caught 4 more nice keeps on the 1/2 oz. jig.  4 of the keeps were right around 3 lbs.  most bites were in the 15 to 20 ft. range.

we quit and put it on the trailer around 1.  sure could not ask for a prettier night.  the moon was pretty as could be.

Well I saw the early morning moon, launched on one of the Bella Vista lakes at 4 AM.  Nice and cool morning, little 12" bass were biting good, but didn't get any of those 3-4 lb. fish like you did.  I did have one on that was pulling pretty hard, but it tossed the jig.

Sounds like a really nice trip, thanks for the report.

Not everyone catches 3-4 pounders with regularity, QB. Just be happy for what you did catch. ^_^

catching better quality bass will always be more consistent on our clear lakes at night than during the day.  my hat is always off to those that are whacking them during the day, especially this time of the year.  daytime catching this time of the year is very difficult.  is that why you seem to take up golf this time of the year?:)

Bo, I can't possibly match all of your big uns. I just stay home with my tail between my legs and play golf. May give up fishing entirely.

i would say that you always put a whacking on them in the spring and fall and into early winter.  daytime fishing here on table rock is near to impossible with all the recreational traffic besides being hotter than blazes.  going at night is one of those blessings we have the ability to enjoy in our area.  lots of places in the country, it is next to impossible to night fish this time of the year because of skitters, gators, and other creatures.  i do miss golf and am glad you can still enjoy it.

As I was leaving my daughters home Tuesday night I saw the big moon coming up in the East. I have not fished for bass since a July of 2012 Wedn night tourney out of the Shell Knob bridge. Seeing that moon made me think about how much I loved being on the water this time of year. Man I miss it.

I grew up in central Arkansas where the Arkansas River was an option during the summer. Too ugly and dangerous to attract many skiers and such, and the constant current kept the bass fat, mean and cool throughout the summer months.

You are dead right about daytime fishing on clear, highland reservoirs in the summer --- nearly impossible for any number of reasons. You're equally right in your past claims about our fish becoming pelagic (offshore dwellers/feeders) a big percentage of the time. And being 1.5 hours from the lake, night fishing isn't as much of an option for me because of the long drive home and the dangers of falling asleep (I have sleep apnea).

Anyway, summer is a good time for us to work on our golf games and let the boat rest a bit. I put a lot of hours on it in fall, winter and spring.
