tho1mas Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Have you all seen any hens with this years hatch? I live between Springfield & Nixa on James River with a field behind my house. Almost every day I see several hens feeding but no chicks with them. Can not remember a year like this in the past. A lot of deer with twins but no baby turkeys.
jdmidwest Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I have not seen any. Lots of hens with no young. SE MO or TN. I mentioned it a few weeks ago to a friend while in TN. We saw several hens, but no young. My job puts me out on the road for several hours a day in SE MO, same thing, all hens, no young. Wet early spring may have led to a bad hatch. But that is nature, it happens. tho1mas 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
MOPanfisher Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I have seen a couple of broods, but they were mostly still very small like they were a late hatch. Most of the hay fields are just now getting cut with the dry weather, so might be more likely to see them. But I agree that I have seen less than usual. tho1mas 1
Johnsfolly Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I participate in the MDC turkey surveys and through the end of Aug have only seen a couple of hens and no young at all. I was out yesterday hunting small game. I usually bring a call or two and get out early enough to hear them on the roost. I got no response to my turkey calls on a property that seems to always have birds in the spring and fall. Not sure how this fall or next spring seasons will be for turkeys. tho1mas 1
