jim m Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 cleaning out the closet where I keep some tackle and found a 2000yd spool of seagaur fc with at least a 1000yds on it. the dilema is it is at least 7 yrs old. it hurts to think I should throw it away. it is 10lb test and still seems hard to break. what would you do?
MOPanfisher Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 If it was in a dark closet it will be fine. If in doubt pull off a few yards, wrap it around your hands and give it a pull. At worst the outside wraps might be weAK but rest should be fine. I had Stren that was 15 to 20 years old and was always in the bix, in a junk room, finally gave it away when I switched to braid.
top_dollar Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Light and humidity are line killers. Good advice above. If it was kept inside it's probably just fine.
fishinwrench Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 If it has started to break down you will get a white dust on your fingers and hands when you are spooling it. The shelf life of flourocarbon is alot longer than regular mono.
