Members CoMo Posted August 2, 2016 Members Posted August 2, 2016 Went gar fishing last night and ended up catching this guy. Not a monster, but after the fight that my youngest had with it I had to clean it. He can't wait to eat it. Greasy B, Daryk Campbell Sr, Johnsfolly and 3 others 6
Johnsfolly Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Como Bet you just can't wipe that smile from his face. Tell him congrats on his fish. Where do you fish for gar? I have tried some of the pools at Eagle Bluffs but no luck yet. I have some out of town trips planned already and would like to find some local spots for gar. Any help would be appreciated.
Members CoMo Posted August 3, 2016 Author Members Posted August 3, 2016 Out at Overton Bottoms on the south portion. If you look on Google Map you can see where we were at. It is a hole that is maybe 50 yards from the levy. Right now any spot east of the levy is holding gar. As of Sunday the water was low enough to stand around the edges, but with last night's rain that may not be the case. If you go, bring plenty of Off. You will have to walk through neck high weeds and the mosquitoes are big enough to carry a man off. My wife was the only one to land a gar. It was a little one that might have measured 18 inches. My oldest son lost one that would have easily been 36 inches. And I had about the same luck. The one I had fought like a MMA fighter and got off half way to the bank. As far as I am concern you are not an accomplished angler unless you have landed a gar. Johnsfolly 1
45acp Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Fishing in the slough holes should be decent decent for awhile after the river finally goes down. They're getting a good recharge this summer. Johnsfolly 1
