I'm pretty sure I picked a hen of the woods, but would like someone on here who knows their shrooms to confirm it!  Pale orange on top and white on bottom.  As big as a head of cauliflower.

It is a good one Ollie but it is a Sulphur shelf, have heard them called chicken of the woods. I know what you are going to say close name but the Hen of the woods is a different beast and also one of the best eaters,

Soooooooooo, will I die if I eat this one or not?!  lol  Should I fry them or put them in a stew or something.  I have only eaten Morels, so this is all new to me.

Ollie - in PA we called these guys chicken mushrooms because they remain firm when cooked and have a chicken texture. The first time we ate them we made a chicken mushroom alfredo. It was really good. The part of the mushroom where it attached to the wood can be a bit woody. So you might want to trim off that section.

Ollie

Found some recipes looking for chicken of the woods on goggle and Youtube. Always good to just cook with some garlic, butter, and olive oil. Enjoy.

Cook with some wild or dark colored rice with some herbs & seasons for a nice color contrast. Might taste like chicken if you use chicken stock instead of water( doesn't really).

Thanks for all the replies!
