ollie Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I'm pretty sure I picked a hen of the woods, but would like someone on here who knows their shrooms to confirm it! Pale orange on top and white on bottom. As big as a head of cauliflower. BilletHead Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 It is a good one Ollie but it is a Sulphur shelf, have heard them called chicken of the woods. I know what you are going to say close name but the Hen of the woods is a different beast and also one of the best eaters, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Johnsfolly Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Ollie - in PA we called these guys chicken mushrooms because they remain firm when cooked and have a chicken texture. The first time we ate them we made a chicken mushroom alfredo. It was really good. The part of the mushroom where it attached to the wood can be a bit woody. So you might want to trim off that section. ollie 1
Johnsfolly Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Ollie Found some recipes looking for chicken of the woods on goggle and Youtube. Always good to just cook with some garlic, butter, and olive oil. Enjoy.
Gavin Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Cook with some wild or dark colored rice with some herbs & seasons for a nice color contrast. Might taste like chicken if you use chicken stock instead of water( doesn't really). ollie 1
