I am in a fantasy football league with a guy that works for a fishing company. He claims he can get me some great deals on Abu Garcia fishing reels. I already own a Revo STX baitcaster. I love it! Light, fits in palm of hand, and I can throw crankbaits into the wind with no backlash if I take the time to get the dials set right. Perfect for those Rock Crawlers at the Rock in late winter/early spring. I could use a nice spinning reel now. One that lists for around 200 dollars that i can get a lot cheaper. Any suggestions boys? Thanks.

The STX series of Abu Garcia spinning reels are really nice.  Not the SX, but the STX.  They seem to be hard to find though.  I can only find them online, not at any store.

Thanks Ellros! I was leaning that way. I noticed they sell a Revo Rocket at the same price as the STX. 199.00. I notice they also sell a Revo Premier for 249.00. Seems that most of the price difference has to do with numbers of bearings. Any thoughts?

I don't know the Abu line of spinning reels, but in general it seems that as they get more expensive they use lightweight material like magnesium for the frames, more bearings as you mention, and better overall machining.  You should get a lighter, smoother reel that feels well put together.  Hard to make comparisons unless you can get your hands on one to try out. 

Cabelas has Pflueger Patriarchs on sale in the bargain cave for $129.  They usually retail for around $200.  Never have fished one, but I have a couple of lesser Pfluegers (Supremes) which I am relatively happy with, except that the drag clicker is a cheap little metal stud mounted on the spool that wears out after a while.  I would hope the Patriarch has a more robust clicker, but you never know. 

I also believe the Patriarch comes with a spare spool, which there days a lot of spinning reels do not.

If you flip or pitch brush the Revo Rocket is awesome. 9 to 1 gear ratio. It will take up line in a hurry. I love mine.

You are doing the right thing by asking questions. I do the same thing when I buy just about anything anymore. Good Luck. 

  This reminds me. Don't trust Consumer Reports. They aren't what they used to be. We recently purchased a washer and dryer. Their highest rated products were getting the worst customer reviews. I think they are getting money to push products now a days. Be careful.
