troutgnat Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Gentlemen, I'm already prepping to hit the tackle bench this fall/winter and experiment with some more bass jig varieties. I did a search on here for the Snootie jig mold but came up empty handed. Does anyone have any experience with this particular mold and been using these jigs. It looks very appealing to me but I have no experience with it. If so, how do you like it and what can you tell me about it. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. I also thought Do-it still carried the snootie jig mold. I'll try to find one for you. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
troutgnat Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Mitch, they still carry it. I'm interested in knowing if anyone has any experience with this mold. That's my question I like the fact that it comes in some of the smaller sizes and has the ball collar for finesse applications. What I really want to do with it is tie some bucktail jigs for cool water presentation with pork trailer. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. Mitch f Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I have their walleye head mold, which was my minnow imitation hair jig head that I used to tie. It cuts thru current well and has a flat on the side to either paint or attach an eye. Never used the snootie jig head though. If you're looking to tie winter bass hair jigs in a craw pattern, I'd recommend a football head with a wire weed guard. abkeenan, dtrs5kprs, MOsmallies and 1 other 4 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
SplitG2 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 That's a great looking jig Mitch Daryk Campbell Sr and Mitch f 2
Pepe Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I have the large and the small Snootie as well as the large & small Poison Tail jig molds. They are similar & they all pour very well. you will need to decide which hook type you like but there are several good choices. Either the Snootie or the Poison-Tail could be your favorite general purpose jig. Very versatile. dtrs5kprs 1
troutgnat Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 If this helps anyone else I just found the Snootie mold on Barlows website for $29 bucks Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
dtrs5kprs Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Snootie reminds me of the Oldham's jigs, or the pointy Stanley they made for a bit, about 15 years ago. Only thing I would do to the mold is take a dremel to the eye sockets. The molded in spots for the 3d eyes bug me on a bunch of do-it molds.
troutgnat Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 I don't particularly care for them eye sockets either. dtrs, do you just grind them flat??? Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
dtrs5kprs Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 More or less. I'd have a hot pot going, and just go slowly at it. Grind a little, pour a test head, check your work. Basically try to maintain the contours. It will bump the weight up a bit. magicwormman 1
