Plastic_worm Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Everyone knows that you're suppose to spray the bear spray on you...your head, arms, neck, any place you don't want to get bite. That sucks! ollie Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 The guy was way too cool for me. I would have been a wreck! Not sure I could keep my head level like he did. Pat Magee Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 To be honest, Smalliebigs looked to be in worse shape after his mishap. awhuber, Mitch f and Brian Jones 3
Al Agnew Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 There have already been three grizzly attacks on bowhunters out here this year. This one was two drainages over from me. There was one last week in Tom Miner Basin, which opens up on Paradise Valley on the Yellowstone, about 40 miles away from our house. None of the three was fatal, two, including this latest one, involved a female with cubs. Tom Miner is grizzly central around here. A landowner planted fennel for some reason in a big field several years ago. Fennel roots are apparently like grizzly catnip. We've personally watched up to eight grizzlies at a time in the field that was originally planted, and others have seen 12 or more in that field. The fennel has spread to other fields now, so the grizzlies are a little more scattered. We watched one last week in a field about a mile from the original field that was within 30 yards of the road, a yearling cub that had been orphaned over the winter but still survived. This weekend we watched the same bear in a field about 200 yards off the road, and it had a larger companion. I have bow tags for elk and deer this year, but haven't been able to get out and hunt yet. It's a bit scary to be roaming around the mountains with only a bow.
Mitch f Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 I'm afraid I would be illegal and carry a revolver, Al. this video always freaked me out with a bear with cubs. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

In Missouri, you can carry a personal defense weapon while bow hunting. Don't know about other states.
