mreed81 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I think I'm going to make it down tomorrow (Saturday) night around midnight and throw some big nasty flies like muddler minnow and mouse patterns and see if disturbing the surface with those doesn't land me my first big Brownie. Anyone else plan on being down there?
JestersHK Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Good luck out there. Throw some big nasty streamers too. The bigger the better. If the fly rod is slow try throwing some shallow diving stick baits on a spinning setup 6-8lb test if they are running any water. My best luck has been between the cable and outlet 1. Anything big and shiny should get you a few. Johnsfolly and mreed81 2

Went down for my first time a couple weeks ago and did decent in numbers, but nothing huge during the day with scuds, and only one Rainbow during the night. I didn't have anything big to throw at night so that probably didn't help.
JestersHK Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I've found its hit or miss. 1 am always seems to be the magic hour too for some reason. Fished at night allot this year, and had some nights where we slayed them, then others where we just caught a few. I will say I caught more big fish at night versus the day. I mostly fished a spinning setup, very slow retrieve through the current, and let them come up and hit it. We'd hear the splash sometimes and then you'd set the hook as they would hit from below. Good luck, and let us know how you do. Johnsfolly 1
Members cmoore03 Posted October 14, 2016 Members Posted October 14, 2016 Heading down tomorrow morning and planning on some night fishing Saturday, probably around the boat ramp. We'll try a little fishing early Sunday before heading down to the White, as the Brown's are moving up a couple weeks early this year. Good Luck Sir. CM
Members Mbrown2858 Posted October 15, 2016 Members Posted October 15, 2016 I may try my hand at some night fishing as were down for the weekend. Never really tried chucking anything big or even really fishing at night in general.
JestersHK Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 If you have never fished there at night please be careful. Bring a partner if possible, and a good headlamp.
Russell Doughty Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Never, ever, ever go night fishing at Taneycomo by yourself. I did one night and fell in and almost drowned. Never again!
mreed81 Posted October 17, 2016 Author Posted October 17, 2016 Made it down last night for a bit, second time to Taney for me. The full moon was nice and bright in between cloud cover, and had the fish jumping all over the place. Mouse patterns didn't produce despite a lot of surface action on water. Hooked two with a Bugger pattern, Brought one to hand, the other one that got off felt bigger but that's just a part of fishing and part of the game! Third brown trout for me, and so far the largest. I'll hook into one of those monsters soon enough. BilletHead, jtram, trythisonemv and 3 others 6
JestersHK Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Nice job! Love seeing those browns, and that one looks fat and healthy. Assuming you fished by the outlets?
