dwiebenga Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Fished out of Shell Knob this weekend, and had a mix bag of results. The large swing in weather and the wind did not make things easy. Water Temp: 63-65 Clarity: 6-8 feet We attempted to try all kinds of baits on Thursday to see what the fish wanted, and we found that they wanted slow and slower. Our best bite over the entire weekend was the boat in 35-50 feet of water throwing to the front corners of docks in the 1st 100yds of a cove. Most of our bites were in the 20-25 foot range. We focused our attention on jigs and c-rigs. I was throwing a 5/8 Pig Sticker football jig in green pumpkin and blue with a Paca Craw trailer in the same pattern. Jim threw a jig and the C-rig. The c-rig was a baby brush hog in the same color pattern. Most of the bites were solid, but we had to work for the bite. I think total we caught 30 fish in 3 days, and we had a 4lb LG, 3 lb SM, and 2-3 keeper SP. I am sure it has all changed by now, but Good luck and have a great Thanksgiving! abkeenan, Bassmod, Hammer time and 2 others 5
Champ188 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 That front dock corners bite should just be getting good. Thanks for the report dwiebenga. Nice to hear from you.
Bill Babler Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Thanks for the report. Hope Jim's hand is not to sore. Those hooks bite hard. Got a really good report from up the White river yesterday, and it is one of my favorite patterns for this time of the year. Slow dragging either a big tube or a football jig. Kind of strolling it or wind drifting it. One of the locals up there yesterday had a big limit of LM and a 4 pound K doing this. Main lake gravel right where it rolls into the channel in 28 to 40 feet. Said his best 5 were close to 18 pounds with 2 other LM over 4 pounds along with the big K. Had 10 solid keeps and only a 1/2 dozen shorts. Caught all his fish from Viney upstream. If your fishing the tube be careful here as they will flat put it away in a hurry. Said the only negative part of the day was he had to cut two tubes off that were completely gone, not in the back of the throat but swallowed and gone. Did not have that trouble with the jig, but he thought it cost him a bite or two cause they really wanted that 4" tube. Good Luck dwiebenga, magicwormman, big c and 1 other 4 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
stinger160 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Update on the hook encounter - just pulled my one stitch out. I know, what a man right! No infection so that is good. After Bill's experience I want no part of that.
johnm Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 If u are reading this u should go drag a jig. Mr babler is right of course, did just that and caught 8 fish in half day,on the first day. Six of eight were keepers mostly smallies. One mean mouth sm /ky
