I was interested in maybe trying out one of those heated fishing docks that I have seen mentioned down at the Lake of the Ozarks. This would be a first for my nephew and I and I was just curious if anyone had any recommendations on where to go/techniques from past experiences at one of the locations. Thanks for any info.

Heated dock fishing has pretty much become a thing of the past. There are still a few around but don't expect them to be nice and warm when you get there. No sense in heating a dock when nobody is using it.

I've always thought fisherman that like to vertical jig in the winter should just buy an old pontoon boat and cut some holes in the floor of the boat between the pontoons, enclose the entire pontoon in some type of weather proof canvas, put in plastic windows so one could see to drive, and run a portable propane heater to stay warm.  You could drive the pontoon around out of the wind, while staying warm, to multiple cover/structure spots.  Then, just drop some anchors, put a vexliar icefishing style portable flasher in the "hole" and vertical jig out of the wind and tear up some fish.  Also, because you'd enclosed in canvas, no-one can see what you're catching......

Thanks for the info. I thought that may be the case since there hasn't been recent information on the topic.

Betcha one of the many local dock builders would come up with something for you. These days you should be able to turn on the heat in the cabin with your smartphone on the way to the lake!

This is my signature, there are many like it, but this one is mine. http://urlmd.com

My son fished off a neighbors dock today vertical. Dropped it all the way down to the bottom then started avery slow retrieve of 1/4 turn of the reel then pause then do it agsin over and over. Not sure  what his final  count was but a few hours ago he was closing in on 30 but only had 12 keepers. He really enjoyed himself. Four or Five boats with dock shooters aboard came by. Only one had caight a few small crappie. I think the lure was just moving to fast and coming in to high.
