i order new boats because im always thinking of things i wish i could add to make it better and If you keep your motor and just switch it from boat to boat then Its relatively inexpensive to do.  Theres not a thing wrong with my current boat and ive taken insanely good care of it but ive thought up a few ideas of things i want to add and if i can sketch it out on paperfor the guys at Supreme, they can make it happen and thier customer service is the best there is.

You have a pic of yours and when is it going in for trade?  207XP?

I just went through this and decided on a topwater 2150 with a 60/40 mercury jet. I was originally leaning towards a supreme but all the guides that I talked to convinced me topwater was the boat to get. Plus in my opinion it is a much better looking boat than the supremes. Fit and finish on this rig is great and topwater has the jet rigs figured out. They run much flatter especially when fully loaded. I'm a big fan of the jet and think it's advantages far outweigh the negatives. The 60/40 might be a little more than is needed but you certainly won't be under powered.

BigD, why did you choose the merc? How do you like it so far?

I will answer for him since I just went through the Yamaha/merc change.  The 60/40 merc is actually cheaper than the 40/30 Yamaha and all dealers will tell you they are much easier to get parts for.  My Yamaha was great but was out of warranty so I traded it to Hodges Marine for the new merc jet.  Getting harder to find the Yamaha around here.  Tohatsu also makes a jet you see once in a while around here, its a 2 stroke 50/35 that's pretty sweet.

Thanks for the input. I'm close to ordering a boat and just wasn't sure.

I was told by someone that Tohatsu actually builds the Mercury jet.

Decided I'm not going used and going to order a new trout boat this winter/spring.  Stopped at BSBD Friday and looked at the units they had outside.  Sad to see them with 4" of water frozen in the bottom of brand new boats.  Do they discount the holdover units or would it be the same price to just order new?  Saw the Top Water boats.  I was not familiar with them but they looked to be a better fit and finish than the Shawnee and Supreme on the interior.  Exterior glass finish looked very comparable.  I'm completely open to brands.  Would like opinions on which you would order if you had a blank piece of paper.  Are they all pretty much the same and same price - just pick which you like best?

Also leaning towards a jet unless someone can convince me the leaf sucking issue doesn't offset the skinny water capability.   Saw they had some mercs and yamahas, both 30 and 40hp.

Again, what would you choose?  I think the 30 would be plenty adequate but don't know.  On jets - Yamaha or Merc?

I missed this post. Im in the same boat shoping boat :)

I will follow your thread too.. I am leaning towards an Xtream or TopWater 30hp Jet. Did you see any Xtreams there at Bull Shoals?

I went to Hodges Friday.  They had one of the new 60" Topwaters.  Dang, it's big.  Too big actually.  I can order one and it will be in my color in 3-4 weeks but in a 50".  Working on the wife now...

Donny said he rigs virtually all with 40hp Mercs.  The 30 Yamaha will be more expensive.  He also doesn't sell Yamaha any longer.  Said he sells a 40 Merc a week on either a new boat or repower.

I drove by BSBD, they had a Topwater and a couple of 207XP's but I'm going to go Topwater for sure.  All things are pretty equal but the finish appears better on the Topwater.  A new 50" with a 40 Merc is right around $15,500.  The 60" is $1000 more.  Basically $500 more for the boat and $500 more for the bigger (wider) trailer with blingy 18" wheels which I could easily live without.

Yeah John, for my use, 60 inches is more than I need. It wouldn't be the worse thing ever, but certainly not going to pay extra for it.

I'm probably 3 years out on a new rig.

The basic White River Jon boat is a pretty basic design. That s why there are so many versions out there. More than one guy has built their own in a garage. Some of those homemade boats look like a giant dog turd, but they fish ok.

my new boat is done so my 207xp is over at Supreme for sale if anyone is interested.  Not sure what Rob and Chris have it priced at but its been babied its whole life and they offer the best customer service around.
