The cool thing about throttles is that they offer control over the speed and you only have to run as fast as you are comfortable running.   Slow down !

I've never caught a fish at 60 mph. I prefer to ease along at about 3000 rpm, sip coffee and nibble on a doughnut.  I've outgrown white knuckle boat rides, especially in Winter.

She hasn't been over 45 mph since the temp dropped below 60 unless she's "fishing around on me." I have a throttle and I'm not afraid to use it, unless the fear is on the side of going too fast. I'm a lot of things but a fast boat driver is not one of them unless it's balmy out and I want to feel some breeze while I blow out the carbon. heck, one of the reasons I run full synthetic oil is I was told it won't build up carbon as bad for putt-arounders like me.

True, but I like to get the cold run over with quickly so I have more time to swish my rods in the water for de-icing.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.
