Put in at 7:15 at Mutton and headed a few miles up the big sac...water was 42-43 deg.  Picked up the jerkbait and never put it down...they were eating this morning!  Caught around 15 fish with 4 or 5 keepers...nothing big just typical keepers. Fish are definitely grouped up...caught 6 fish on one little 25 yard stretch in about 12 cast.  Got off the water by 9:30a to get back home...wish I could have stayed all day!  Lots of boats out as well!  Here are a few from today.

Well I had a mixed day today. When I got to OTM my white Avalanche was setting in the water and not on the HydroHoist.  No worries as it started in half of an eye blink. Picked up some fish right away in RB and on then on main lake points in about 15 to 20 foot of water. Mostly Kentucky's with maybe a couple measuring up. Think I was possibly fishing too deep. Was throwing jerkbait and a 3/8 oz brown jig most of the time. The bite was very soft and usually just a little bit of drag on my baits. Had to leave and get back to Fort Scott so hopefully the maintenance workers will get my boat back up on the lift. Anybody going by OT might take a quick look and verify the white Avalanche is up on the lift in slip 117. Will not be back on the water till the coming weekend. Saw a lot of shad in the back of a couple of coves that I wish I had more time to investigate. All in all a great start to 2017 and putting a few fish in the boat.

Hammertime,

I always knew you were a very intelligent guy. From the picture of your favorite Jerk Baits I am positive you have HUGE intelligence !!! I know there are a bunch of good ones out there.... Mega........... Rapala....... many more............  But I have to say that I chuckle when I see a guy with a box full of 25 dollar Jerk Baits. The Smithwick Rogue is one awesome lure. I have made them to be slow sinkers etc with split rings and other stuff. Also used Fluorocarbon to get a little sinking from them. One thing is for sure........... people like you and I have caught a ton of fish on them. Very hard to beat. I am in agreement with your color selection too but have to say I like a Shad pattern and something with Chartreuse too.

Keep sending your reports as I get huge enjoyment from them.

Old School but still catching them,

Walcrabass
