shockley32 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I was able to get out for a little while over the weekend. The fishing was still good, however it has started to slow considerably. Fished the same pattern all three days, we had two limits on Thursday, two limits Friday and three limits on Saturday. The fish on Thursday were big, Friday and Saturday they were average. Details: Fished under shad balls (the shad balls are smaller thus fewer fish per ball), focused on the edge of the channel, both the inside and outside, in 35-38 feet of water. Most fish were caught 18'-22' deep. All were caught using 1/8th ounce jigs - used gray, blue, pink and white. The bite was very subtle and you had to pay close attention. Not sure this pattern is going to hold out much longer, if the weather continues to stay fairly warm they should start moving to a pre-spawn pattern very soon. Good luck! Ranger520vx Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Nice report Brad, glad to see your still on them.
JUNGLE JIM 1 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Nice mess of crappie, somebody is going to be eating well.
MOPanfisher Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Beat me, I got skunked on Saturday. Releases have increased to 500 CFS, don't know if that will change things or not.
packersooner Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Great report and well done as usual Brad. Also, thanks again for the advice! We tried that "moving shad ball" bite from late morning through mid-afternoon in the same general area you've been fishing and could only manage two keepers. Around 3 pm or so, we then scanned for timber on the edge of the channel holding fish. We found a good tree top and ended the day with 20 keepers and a few nice whites. You would get a flurry of action as the smaller balls of shad moved through the tree top. Same depth of water (35-38 feet) and distance down (18-22 feet). We caught about three-quarters of them vertically jigging, however my partner also caught some casting with a slow retrieve. Jason
Members basscatfan Posted January 28, 2017 Members Posted January 28, 2017 What is water clarity on the lower end?
shockley32 Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 In the last week or so it has gotten a little dirtier, however it is still pretty clear. On the Pomme arm 8 miles from the dam you can see 2' deep pretty easy, a week and a half ago you could see 4'. Brad Have your visited Limitville lately?
