Vinsott Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Went out today from 2pm to 6 with brooders that I still have alive I bought over a month ago. Went to the birds and found shad everywhere. I recently was given an older 10ft cast net that I spent a day repairing and wanted to give it a try. One throw and about 500 shad. I gave some to some guys in a kayak and kept a few and started shaking the net over the side to get them out of the net. The net works. I tried a jigging spoon and would get 1-4 shad stuck on the treble hook. Had brooders and small shad down about 25' and ended up catching a 37" and two 29"'s, all on the brooders. All stripers were fat pigs and I kept a smaller one for dinner. Was a beautiful afternoon with light winds finally and I got home by halftime. Fish Hound, zarraspook, bfishn and 10 others 13

Blll Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 T-shirt & stripers on Super Bowl Sunday. Does it get any better? Great job! I'm going' soon!
Stump bumper Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 I was in the horsehoe bend area all after noon and could not find any shad at all, so no stripers. Glad you were able to find them. I did bring up some spots off the bottom in about 20 feet of water dragging a ned rig with the light wind. All the fish I caught were really lethargic for water temps near 50, felt more like pulling in sticks. I had a 14 inch crappie that I thought was dead until I put him back and watched him swim back down. I should have run more and looked for the birds but I was just lazy and enjoying the sun.
