Targa98 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 So all you ned freaks, if a guy like me has bought 2 TRD colors, which are my 2 go to with everything else, green pumpkin and PB&J, which would you throw on a cloudy day or does the water color dictate it for you guys. I've never thrown one and am thinking of giving it a try this weekend. I've ordered my stuff from stuff and it will be here tomorrow, so I might as well try it.

I throw an opaque green a lot on cloudy days. GP, GP red flake, California Craw. Bright days look at the translucent greens. Watermelon, sprayed grass, watermelon candy. PBJ always works. Often better than the rest. Watermelon red is not a color I throw a lot in the little guy. Doesn't seem as productive as the rest. Last thought...the cut Zinkerz or Zero is softer and saltier than the TRD. Generally a better option. Plus you can always wacky or TX rig it.
Targa98 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Thank you very much for the info. I've already purchased the TRD Baits in the two colors and also a package of the Z man finesse mushroom Jig heads just to give it a try. If I enjoy throwing it I will definitely try the zinkerz baits next.
Quillback Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 Dirt is my go to color and if it doesn't seem to be working I'll throw PB&J. One thing I like about Dirt is that it is USUALLY very salty, I like to stretch the tail and get a lot of that salt out and you get a very foamy bait that has a lot of action that can be imparted with very little rod movement, floats off the bottom well also. And I cut the Zinkerz as Dtrs mentions. I don't do too much thinking as far as cloudy/sunny stuff, I just roll with Dirt. If the water is murky I might experiment with something with some glitter in it like Cali Craw. Muddy Water, vernon and Daryk Campbell Sr 3

If you decide you like it, send Dtrs a PM and order his finesse heads, they are the best out there IMO and very reasonably priced. big c, vernon, mixermarkb and 2 others 5

Think I only have six bags or so packed, as opposed to 45+ of PBJ.

I know the other Dave from Kansas fishes PB&J and does very well with it, and I think, and I emphasize "think" that smallies prefer PB&J over Dirt. But, relatively few smallies on the upper end of the lake, if I fished further down I might lead with PB&J. Muddy Water throws PB&J often and does well also. dtrs5kprs and Muddy Water 2
Muddy Water Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 The 5 lb'r was caught on dirt but like Quill said I throw PB&j too....I'm not sure which produces more fish but both work really well. Daryk Campbell Sr and dtrs5kprs 2
Quillback Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 This afternoon I fished one of the Bella Vista lakes, started out with Dirt and only caught one on it, switched over to PB&J and caught about 7 on that color. Overall it was much slower than I expected, water temp hit 63 and maybe the rapid rise had the fish buffaloed. Caught one sorry looking bass, had the head and body size to be a 6 lber if healthy, but skinnier than heck and looks to be dying of old age. My guess is it's an old male. No fight at all, I mean none, thought I was dragging in a stick. Look at those sunken eyes. Muddy Water 1
