Members L D T Posted March 19, 2017 Members Posted March 19, 2017 Would echo the cautions. Recommend you only go out with guides. Also buy a Lake Stockton Fish Master map. It'll tell you all you need to know about what fish you will. At h in the various areas of the lake. It's spot on. Mutton Creep marina has them. Hammer time and dan hufferd 2
Walcrabass Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 To the Lady learning to fish, I hope you enjoy the sport as much as other ladies I know. They are lifetime Fisher-women and never turn down a chance to go. Please take the advice to contact a guide. They are invaluable. Please also make sure you are conceal weapon ready. I had an incident several years ago, and yes it was broad daylight, where I thought I was going to have to take out a couple of guys with my 6 foot boat paddle. I had my 5 year old son with me and I am sure I looked like an easy target. They were saying things back and forth across the boat ramp where I was taking out the canoe. While mildly swinging the paddle and letting them know I was not going to be a push over I locked my son in the truck. I told him " If these guys get Daddy don't get out of the truck". One of them started towards me and I faced him with my back to the truck. He stopped, said something to his friend, and then backed down. I threw the canoe in the truck and left. I called law enforcement to alert them to patrol the ramp realizing it was an easy place for a robbery or mugging while someone would be tending to their boat. Not trying to scare you to death. Just use caution. It doesn't matter whether you are a man or a woman it can happen. Walcrabass
Members chomper Posted March 20, 2017 Members Posted March 20, 2017 Walcrabass is absolutely correct. While I personally have not had such an encounter with anyone, I am a CCW fisherman and always armed at the lake. There are times when no one is around where you are launching a boat and the lake or ramp seems very isolated. Unfortunately we are living in a different time now where you just can't trust everyone is a good 'ol boy ! And walcrabass....Hats off to you in how you protected your son and stood your ground. Had I been there... I'da had your back. Those goons would've been in deep monkey dodo !!
straw hat Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Like above, my wife and I have run into some very dangerous situations on the lake with drunks and other jerks. Use great caution and be prepared.
Hammer time Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 I strongly disagree with carrying a gun! I have never I repeat never been in any situation that calls for brandishing a pistol! If you believe that enjoying the great outdoors with a pistol on your side to protect yourself, you might be in the wrong spot! I have never been close to thinking that I need a pistol to be safe on Stockton! Lifes2Short 1
Walcrabass Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Hammertime, I too don't want anyone brandishing a weapon. That is why it is concealed. Only there if you need it. Too many crazies out there today. Wally Smalls21 and blacknoseddace 2
