My current starter battery is a 24MS Duralast with 700 CCA (850 amps) for an 88' 150 Mariner.  I'd like to replace it with identical battery but I'm having a tough time finding a starter battery with 700 CCA.  Thoughts?  Would 675 CCA be adequate or should I go up to 750 CCA?

Thanks Wrench!  Should I be looking at Amp hours on a starter/crank battery?

I'll probably be giving you a call on some work I need done, but hoping to just be replacing the battery to get me fishing here in the next couple weeks and then mid-summer may be looking into my more major stuff like my power trim.

To be honest I just go with 1000 MCA group 24 batteries on every outboard because I know without a doubt they are sufficient on everything.   My main goal is always to protect those voltage regulators and stator charge coils.

I currently have a 225 optimax with a group 29 battery that has 800 MCA. on my boat they have the electronics, and bilge pumps hooked up to the starting battery. would the group 24 1000 MCA be enough to run electronics and livewells all day? I'm pretty sure the 225 optimax needs more than 800 MCA.

I used to run a 225 Opti with 2 live aerators, 2 sonar/gps units, 2 structure scan units, external gps antenna and in the winter I had lots of problems keeping the electronics from shutting down when I'd crank the Opti.  I wound up having to go to an 1150 CCA battery to keep everything working properly.

That is what I am running into. Electronics will freeze or turn off when I start the motor. Other problem Ive found is finding a 1000 + CCA battery in my area.

When the voltage drops below 11 my Lowrance units shut off.  It used to happen all of the time with 24 series batteries.  The best battery I ever had was the Sears PM-1 but I have heard it is no longer made.  I don't have that issue any more as I now run a Vrod.
