Gavin Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 First one is probably a Dryad's Saddle. Have no idea about the one with the brown cap & white gills. Nice haul of Oysters in the last pic.
BilletHead Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I 'm with Gavin on this ID https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/dryad’s-saddle If so it is a pretty early sighting but this is an early year for everything. Johnsfolly Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Coosa I agree with Gavin and Billethead that they are likely to be Dryad's saddle or pheasant back mushrooms. They are edible, but only the outer younger edge of the mushroom. They will smell like watermelon. I found some young ones last year. I cooked them in butter and that watermelon like scent does persist a bit. They are kind of a weird flavor. Interesting, but not something that I will go out of my way to harvest.
Coosa Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 Thanks guys! I will stick to morels for now. Ive already found more than I can eat in a season so now it's time start giving them to family. I would like to start learning about fall mushrooms though Johnsfolly 1
BilletHead Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Don't limit yourself to fall ones either. Their is quite a flush of summer mushrooms in damp years. We are setting up for a good one! Enjoy the fungus among us.
