grizwilson Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 The cables on my trusty ole Champion are getting stiff, shoot original equipment on a 87 model, nothing lasts.... Should I just replace or can I get a lube cleaning job? PM d Wrench, but open to ideas. Bushbeater Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Had to do it on my Stratos, bought the cable kit from West Marine. It was cheaper at the time to buy a kit including the rack than to just buy the cable. It wasn't to bad a project except for having to remove the engine to get the cable hooked up. Still all good after about 4 years.
grizwilson Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 Well guess I will have to figure out the size and get it done. Did one on my Ranger back in 80's think I can figure it out again. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Stein Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 It's not that bad. I did one on an '85 Ozark bass boat that I keep at our cabin up here in Nebraska last year. I also found it competitive to buy the whole rack and cable like Bushbeater did.
MOBass Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I had to do that a couple years ago on my Nitro. I work slow and it only took a couple hours. I tied off some para cord to the old cables when I removed them and used that to help fish the new. Steering went from two hands wrestling the wheel to smooth as glass and a light touch.
