Pointers, Tips, Advice....

I'm a new boat owner and have always bank or pond fished in the past.

I live in Collins and have fished Pomme for the past couple days, and the lack of size in the Crappie leave me wanting to try Stockton.

Crabtree looks like the closest ramp to me. Any pointers or tips for this area? I target Crappie more than anything. Wouldn't mind some Walleye either.

Also, how steep is the ramp at CC? I have to launch with a 2WD Ford Ranger.

Depends on how big your boat is, and you don't want a tiny boat on Stockton.  I used to fish out of a 14 ft. v bottom but it had pretty good sides.  Stockton can get really rough.  Never fished Crabtree, more Ruark area for me, CC is my winter ramp, it's not steep, just a little narrow for some.

I disagree about cc ramp being "Not steep" I would steer clear with a 2wd ranger oghfm may be in the bushes looking for YouTube gold 🤣🤣🤣 as for crappie I'm no help their to ya someone will pipe in I'm sure though best I can say is brush piles with minnows will get you bit from what conservation page says this years class of crappie aren't huge at stockton

You can troll Flicker Shad for Crappie and catch some decent fish. I usually troll 18 to 30 feet for suspended fish. Look for baitfish on your sonar. You can troll just about any part of the lake. You'll likely catch a variety of species. Trolling is a good way to relax and soak in the surroundings. Rodholders are nice to have too.

Troll flicker shads 5, 6 and 7.  You will certainly catch fish, cover water, and explore a new lake.  Brushpiles will hold fish if you can find them, but for your first time on stockton id suggest trolling, especially with the trolling bite the way its been.

No help on that ramp, i was out of hawker.

You might want to consider launching at Masters.  It is closer than Crabtree for you.

It's actually a little further, but not by much. I'll check them both out.

My trailer tilts so I barely have to get it in the water, and can keep my truck tires far away from the slimy part of the ramp. But with the truck being a manual, the less steep the better.

Thanks for the tips. I will try trolling. I have a 14' Alumacraft that seems pretty stable, it was fine on Pomme with all the boat traffic and wakes.

I will agree that stockton has for the most part bigger crappie as I used to fish there solely but have since bought a weekend lake home on pomme and do all my fishing  there now.  I understand your comment about the size of crappie on pomme but it is not always that way.  ever since the water got back down close to normal the crappie bite has picked up considerably.  the only problem is they are all in the 8 inch class.  for the last month we have caught a boat load of crappie but only catch maybe 5 keepers.  the funny thing is all the little ones are black crappie and the keepers will be whites.  the keepers are hiding out somewhere but I have yet to find them but they will be back.  the nice thing is that the future looks excellent for keeper blacks next year.

Put in at Masters tonight. Ramp was a piece of cake.

It was pretty choppy so I was too weary in my small boat to try trolling the big water.

I anchored by the island and fished a while near a brush pile, caught a 13" smallie on a jig and tube. Just a couple short bass and gills after that.

I'd like to fish during the week, it should be more calm and cooler.

i did pretty good jigging 1/4oz binks spoons(many thanks to Dan Hufferd for the videos that introduced me to these fish magnets!) in some shade of white on crappie, white/black bass and a couple eater walleye around brush piles in 15-20ft a couple weeks ago.

1/2oz caught some fish but they really seemed to prefer the smaller bait.
