We are floating on 8/12 and I'm trying to figure out the best float for the time that we have available. Last time we floated from Greer to Whitten but really liked the Greer to Turner stretch the best for fishing.  Anyone know how long it would take to float from Greer to Turner Mill under the current river conditions, with alot of time devoted to fishing?

I can easily make it an all day float in that stretch. Get out and wade the runs. Paddle up from ramp and fish that area well too at Greer.

I can also make a pretty good trip out of Turner to Whitten too. River is flowing good this summer, you will be floating fast if you stay in boat the whole trip.

I've pinned this topic because it's a common question.  Anybody that wants to elaborate on the subject - the information will be here for anyone else to view.

Thanks

Take as long as you want. Could do as a day float easily, but we usually do an overnight float and fish all day the first day. Paddle up to the Spring if you are able too then float down. We usually camp on a gravel bar near L. Hurricane Cr. In the Summer months. Might take us 3-4 days in late fall or winter. Lots of good camping spots open up when the leaves have fallen and the bugs are gone.

Thanks for the help. Last year at this same time, we floated Greer to Whitten in about 10 hrs if I remember right. We fished alot but didn't really pick it apart since it was our first time, and we weren't sure how long the whole float would take.  We caught most of our fish in the Greer to Turner stretch.

Every trip is different, just because you caught more fish between Greer and Turner last time, does not mean that would be the case this time.  Regardless, just getting in your canoe and floating from Greer to Turner is currently averaging 2 hours.  With fishing, how long it takes is up to you.
