Hey all, I'm new to the forum so I'll preface this by saying that I fish solely from a kayak. I do not own a big boat so I am limited to my range, but am blessed in that I can go places where many big boats can't, and paddle where many big boats travel as well. I have never been to Stockton before, but I am interested in taking a trip out here soon and fishing for a couple days straight. My main question is that, from what I have been reading, Stockton is a pretty windy lake. Are there any areas of the lake that are fairly sheltered from the wind? I am mainly a bass fisherman as well if that is needed. Thank you all for any information.

When we were there in May we saw a few guys fishing out of Masters in kayaks.  The big cove on the Sac side of the state park should give a lot of sheltered water for kayaking too.

Kayaker,

There is a small place to launch in Greaser Cove. Pretty protected cove at the back. Also might try launching at Hawker Campground area and fishing back in that cove.

Might take a look at State Park Cove. There is some area at the back of that one too that is suitable for Kayaking.

There are ramps in the back of Hawker Branch cove and Miller Branch.  There is plenty of fishing for a Yak in Hartley.  Son's Creek access off hwy 39 N of Greenfield.  Get you good map of the area and you will be able to find dozens of places that you can launch.

I've seen yaks around quite a bit, even on windy days.

There is always an area of the lake that will be sheltered from the wind. You'll have to plan your launch carefully and take wind direction into consideration.

I would stay off of the north main lake and fish the southern end in the Mutton Creek and Aldrich areas.
