here read this S-L-O-W-L-Y ...I know for a fact genetic studies are underway in the SW Missouri.NE Arkansas, SE Kansas, and NE Oklahoma

Quote

The genus Cryptobranchus has historically only been considered to contain one species, C. alleganiensis, with two subspecies, C. a. alleganiensis and C. a. bishopi.[15] A recent decline in population size of the Ozark subspecies C. a. bishopi has led to further research into populations of this subspecies, including genetic analysis to determine the best method for conservation.[17] Crowhurst et al., for instance, found that the "Ozark subspecies" denomination is insufficient for describing genetic (and therefore evolutionary) divergence within the Cryptobranchus genus in the Ozark region. They found three equally divergent genetic units within the genus: C. a. alleganiensis, and two distinct eastern and western populations of C. a. bishopi. These three groups were shown to be isolated, and are considered to most likely be "diverging on different evolutionary paths".[17]

Yep. The Spring river is part of the white river system.

Apparently MoCarp was thinking of the same Spring River that I was. Which subspecies is in which Spring River here?

from my understanding very little work was done on the spring river /neosho river/elk river.....from the ones that I have seen they are the ozark...however I think a full taxonomic test or DNA sample needs to be done

from my understanding signs posted on please don't move rocks and could see some areas off limits during breeding...its more of what the feds want more than the states

Glad to see them making a bit of a comeback. Especially after the STL Zoo had the fungus issue.
