oneshot Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Ok I live 5 miles from the Niangua River but find my best fishing 20 miles from the house. About 20 miles the other direction I can fish the Gasconade. I've been told there is good fishing on the Gasconade but went fishing there once and didn't do well. Is it me or is the Niangua better? Or is it just a matter of confidence? oneshot
Flysmallie Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I don’t think you can go anywhere once and make a decision on if it’s better or not.
fishinwrench Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 It depends on the stretch. There are some dead lifeless spots on the Gasconade too. There is only one place I know of on the G'nade that doesn't require floating if you want to catch more just than a few fish.
oneshot Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 I was fishing where the old Bridge is and I-44 goes across. North East of Lebanon. oneshot

A half mile upstream from there is a good hole, as is about a mile below. But you need a canoe or Jon boat. Mayfield spring/cave is a good place to bank fish, and one of the Forrest service accesses below that is a place where you can hike to some good fishing.
Seth Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 What were you fishing for? I floated near Hazelgreen last summer and caught more smallmouth up to 17" than I could shake a stick at. It was far better fishing compared to anything I've experienced between Mount Sterling and Boiling Spring. The number of suckers I saw up there was unreal as well.

Oneshot prefers to stay within walking distance of his truck I think.

Seth Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I don't see why sucker fishing wouldn't be any good as the riffles were absolutely chock full of them. As for catfish, I never really hear much about people fishing for them up in those stretches. It's all about smallmouth, goggle eye and suckers.

Ok sounds good I need to find where I can get below a riffle. Don't have a boat so have to look around. Get my Maps out and look. oneshot Seth 1
