budman Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 I am going to be on the White Feb. 5-7 and besides bringing my #5 and the normal midges, smaller streamers and a few dry flies I am wanting to bring a bigger rod and throw some large streamers. I have never done this so I was wondering what I should tie up, colors and sizes and what would be the best way to fish them. Will be staying at Whitehole and plan on wad fishing but will be bringing our kayaks. May also float the Norfork one day. Any ideas would help a lot.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 Check out JOHN Berry’s report. It’s a great start for what’s hot at the time. http://www.berrybrothersguides.com/
netboy Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Your choice of streamers will depend on the amount of water running. Use large articulated streamers on big water and smaller ones on low water. Here's a link to Dally's streamer selection that might help. Most are pretty hard to tie (at least for me) so you may want to stop in and buy a few and talk to the guys about how to fish them. https://theozarkflyfisher.com/shop/cat/1/22/big-streamers https://theozarkflyfisher.com/shop/cat/1/66/buggers-small-streamers
Flysmallie Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 If you are going to tie some check out Brian Wise's Youtube Channel. He does a great job with his videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/flyfishingtheozarks
Members gblevins Posted January 23, 2018 Members Posted January 23, 2018 Streamers: double deceivers, one in yellow and olive, the other in white, or white and bubble gum. Fishing them is easy. Go out at the beginning of the big push, at least 3 units, in the morning or afternoon, just after the trash is gone, and bang the banks. Ride that high water as far as you want to take it. Nymphs: I hate to say it, but you can't beat an egg pattern right now. Something larger like a y2k bi colored uv cerise and uv chartreuse. Right now, unless a big cold snap comes in, you'll be using those nymphs not the big streamers. grizwilson 1
