Lance34 Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Don’t know if I’m ever going to get around to installing my new rigging rod holders. Rather fish than work on the boat. Past two Friday’s have been an insane bite. Culling them!! They are feeding like they are competing for food and starving😂 Hitting it running with it. A lot like a white bass would do. Fouled hook several yesterday. Hooked a 13” crappie in the belly that felt like a rock coming to the surface.🤪 WT was 48-50 yesterday. Rigging straight minnow rigs on shallow mud flats Don’t mean to flood the board with crappie reports. Just when I first started fishing this lake, this site really helped me learn the lake and meet some friends along the way. God Bless and of course pics below Daryk Campbell Sr, Blll, dan hufferd and 4 others 7
Quillback Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Keep the reports coming, it is cool to see you catching crappie. One of these days you may see me out there, if I can ever put down the bass stuff. I'd probably be doing some cast and retrieve stuff with small swimmers or jigs, I am not set up to do the spider rigging (I assume that's what you are doing). Lance34 1

Yes spider rigging that’s all I do.
Members Fish Hound Posted February 17, 2018 Members Posted February 17, 2018 Lance, keep them coming please. I'm like you, a lot of what I know about fishing this lake I have learned on this board. There has been plenty of trial and error for me but a lot of places, times, techniques, etc. I've picked up here that would not have tried or thought of like these muddy bottom crappie. Going to try and get the little boat out tomorrow. I don't spider rig but will try a double drop rig with minnow top and plastic jig on bottom with a couple of poles. Lance34 1
Blll Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Lance, don't ever stop those reports! Itching to get out and see if that technique works mid-lake. Water 4-6 degrees colder mid lake. Thanks for sharing! Lance34 1
Ron Burgundy Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Enjoy reading your reports....gotta get some work done on my boat then I will be after the crappie up the Kings river arm of TR. Lance34 1 Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford

I haven’t used a plastic jig all winter. Tried to but, they take the minnow over the tube jig tipped with a minnow that is right next to it on another rod. 😂 It’s been straight minnow rig at .2-.3mph Pic below is basically the minnow rig I tie up. You can get them at Wally World already tied up

Yes that dirty water will be warmer. Brings them up

My set up has always been to have the sinker on bottom with the two baits above it tied with Palomar knots

My set up has always been to have the sinker on bottom with the two baits above it tied with Palomar knots That’ll let you stay intact with bottom your way and just hit them in the head to make them look up😂. It’s more of a preference to me. If that’s what works for you use it. I just don’t like being right on the bottom. Tend to bottom lip hook set them and have pop offs or miss bites. They feed looking up so, I try be 1-2 feet above them. Over deep water 15-25 feet it’s a total different story. Way high in the column. They see something flickering the shoot up to take a peak and bam. Learn that this fall and early winter on Lake X😂
