LOZ Water Temps ANYWHERE???

Slow day today, but got this one to bite.  10 keepers in about 2 days of fishing.  All I threw was a jerkbait.

I got out for a quickie before lunch and found a few shallow in some dirty 48° water.

Dandy fish BQ1970 and Wrench! Other bait options coming into play with warming water. Looks like Wrench has his favorite bait tied on!

  The versatility of that RedEye Shad continues to amaze me.  I have gotten to where I never put it away.    If they ever quit making it I'll have a total meltdown.

I bought one on an old recommendation of yours. I will have it tied on from now until June. 

 

Also, I finished getting the trolling motor mounted today. Thanks for the help.

I wish they would find a paint that actually bonds to the plastic, is the red bad about peeling off?  The Chrome and Sexy Shad versions are terrible.

Yeah I know, and Chrome Sexy is one of my favorite colors.  I have a box full of beat and battered ones hopefully awaiting a crank wrap that hasn't been offered yet....but surely will soon.  I thought about trying some chrome duct tape.

The red ones I just touch-up with an Extreme Sharpie and they keep on catching.    

The 2-Tap version has been a dud for me.  I think they are too heavy and don't have the same action.  They just don't feel the same, takes a harder/faster pull to make them "thump", and since I fish them in fairly shallow water I just don't like that.  So if by chance you like the 2-Taps I have a few I'll trade you for originals.

IMO...the Red Eye lipless is over-hyped and over-priced.  I have some, and I still throw them, but they're no better than seem of the cheaper BPS and Academy Sports lipless cranks.  That H2O Express lipless is really nice.

Curious...where did you find 48 degree water?  We were all over the Gravois Arm - particularly Indian Creek - and didn't find anything warmer than 46, but most was between 43 and 45.  Caught several fish on Friday, only a few dinks on Saturday and Sunday.  It was TOUGH.  Thanks!

BTW...if you were up that way - we were buzzing around in a black skeeter - big guy at the helm with bright orange windbreaker and a bright yellow Lews hat

The RedEye has a pause and fall action that the others I've tried don't have. If the fish are chasing it down and crushing it then it probably doesn't matter, but when you're smacking logs then letting it fall for second I think (hell I know) it matters.

Interesting.  We did hit the back of Soap, and the shad were everywhere.  Didn't notice the higher temps though, but maybe I didn't look, because the water was so clear - I guess I assumed it wasn't as warm as other, more murky, areas.  Thanks.
