I still really think the big problem was the Shad kill. You just can’t catch many fish when there is all that free food to be had.

I tend to disagree there. Usually, I look forward to the shad kill. That's when my jerkbait is on fire. I've had some of my best days ever in the peak of the shad kill and 50+ water temp. However, I was down there fishing same time as you and noticed that the fish were all still pretty deep and (water temp of 47 on average). There were dead and dying shad all over the place but the schools were still deep. Therefore, the bass were deep with them. I even noticed a lack of seagull action, which was odd. I was catching all my fish in 25-40 ft of water (A-rig). Only caught one fish in 3 days of fishing in the 10-15 ft water column (jerkbait). Some buddies were down as well catching fish on bluff walls. Same depth, 25-40ft with a jig. Over a dozen keepers a day. I was blaming the cold water and high blues for the lack of bite, til I started fishing deep ;)

Thank You for the feedback. I’ll definitely try both those ideas next time I experience that situation
