trythisonemv Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 How is streamer chucking in April and May on nfotw?
Al Agnew Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Somebody who fishes the North Fork a lot will hopefully chime in, but in general, if the water is a little high and murky streamers can be terrific. Low and clear, not so much unless it's a dark day...at least that's been my experience both on Missouri trout streams and Western ones. Since the water is often a little high and murky in the spring, I'd not hesitate to fling streamers on the North Fork in those conditions. trythisonemv 1

Gavin Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Brown trout love them. Mostly and early or late thing unless the water is up. There are more brown trout between the Falls and Dawt Mill than there are above the Falls. April & May is usually a good time to fish that river before the summer hordes invade. BTW, Sunburst Ranch re-opened up for camping on April 1st! trythisonemv and Ham 1 1
Al Agnew Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Yeah, I agree with Gavin in that I always expect to catch browns and not so much rainbows with streamers, but if the conditions are right the bigger rainbows will eat them, too.
Gavin Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 NFOW is mostly nymph fishing with big stuff and lots of shot when it's up and the fish are friendly. Low water NF0W usually involves an hour drive to the 11pt where the fish are dumb and willing. Ham 1
trythisonemv Posted April 14, 2018 Author Posted April 14, 2018 I fished the river before for rainbows nymphing. Just really trying to get into this whole streamer game. Thanks for the advice guys!
tjm Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Why would that river be different than another river? I guess I've never fished where streamers wouldn't work. Usually my go to bait on all but the tiniest streams.
Al Agnew Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Funny thing is, even the smallest streams can surprise you with some outsize fish if you try streamers when they are up and murky. Streamers are always hit or miss for me, but I always give them a try.

If the water has no leeches, no shiners, no sculpin , no crayfish, no tadpoles or minnows at a particular moment; then I would guess those imitations would not work well. Low light conditions may be when the prey are most active and thus when those patterns work best. trythisonemv 1
