Boobie Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Wm, Do you think it was a late spawn or water temp too cold? Coming down Monday.

I'm thinking the spawn was late and spread over a longer period if time. I haven't checked my log to see what the water temp was last year. Was 50 degrees today. I should have been on skinnier waters as opposed to where I fished mid lake. They have to be around somewhere! I just didn't have the time to look as had to get grass mowed at the cabin. WM
dan hufferd Posted April 13, 2018 Author Posted April 13, 2018 Last year about this time I caught a few on a underspin and grub in 45 feet of water. Think they were feeding on shad that were on the bottom, the water was up some then too, and choppy.

The lake was up 10 feet or so last spring, they were in the same spot both years. Anybody tried the RB cove yet? Seems like the dam spawners kind of congregate there in the spring. WM

Boobie Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 We are going to fish roark first and then go from there. Should I bring a snow shovel or are we past that that!! Spring is a little late so better things are yet to come. Will report when we get home fri. or sat. dan hufferd 1
dan hufferd Posted April 14, 2018 Author Posted April 14, 2018 I chickened out. I don't feel like fighting the cold and wind for a few fish. I guess I am old. The wind is 20 mph here 43 degrees and dropping @ 8 am. To all you tough die hard fishermen and women, be careful and good luck !
Lifes2Short Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Last year, on April 12th, we hammered the Crappie in Sons Creek. The 12th is my fathers birthday and I kept wishing he was out fishing with me. And I can promise you the water was much lower than it currently is, it might have been below power-pool. I don’t remember what the water temp was last year on the 12th but the trees/brush that we were fishing are now under “feet’s” of water. I’ll bet MOPanfisher can find the temps & lake levels from this time last year. If you head out this weekend stay warm! Tight Lines! dan hufferd 1
Dutch Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 According to my fishing log on April 12, 2017 the lake level was 862. When I got to the lake at 2 pm the water temp down by the dam was 61° and the air temp was 73°. There was a SE wind of around 10 mph. Evening and night fishing was extremely productive on black and orange buck tail jigs. Lifes2Short 1
