Members MCrump Posted April 13, 2018 Members Posted April 13, 2018 Went down last night (evening of 12th) to hopefully find and catch spawning crappie from the bank around McCubbins Point area. Found 7 total, 3 that would've kept. So it was definitely a slower trip than I wanted but I couldn't keep from trying after 2 warm days with sunshine. Lake is lower than usual for mid-April, best my mind can recall anyway. And I don't have temp readings for you guys, sorry. The fish I did catch weren't picky on jig color. Had a good time. Some rain and continued warmth should really get things going. Saddest part of the whole trip was catching 4 of those 7 in the last 5 minutes I was there, but the wife was with me and we needed to leave to go pick up our daughter. Tomorrow, (depending on what the weather today does) we will chase the whites. Phil Lilley 1
Seth Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 That water is still cold. Main lake is probably still in the low 50's with some pockets reaching mid 50's. Not to rub salt in the wound, but you're one of the few that I've talked to this week that has fished LoZ this week and not slaughtered the crappie, especially those that have fished the past two days. Lots of very good quality fish as well. I'm heading up to fish the Glaize tomorrow so I should have a report of my own to add to the forum afterwards. Phil Lilley 1
Members MCrump Posted April 13, 2018 Author Members Posted April 13, 2018 That's how it goes for me Seth.... Love to fish. Lots to learn. Haha. Guy I work with caught them shooting docks Tuesday so I didn't know how many I would find from the bank but the weather was too nice to just sit around home. But generally speaking, any given day most people can outfish this guy. Seth 1
nomolites Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 A friend waxed them Thursday am on the jig and bobber rig on shallow gravel with brush. I have still been shooting docks and doing well with the big girls starting to move in to them; lower end main lake was 52-53. Mike
Seth Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I love to shoot docks, but the wind may make that difficult tomorrow. On top of the wind, there will be 150+ bass boats fishing AIA and other tourneys in the area ripping arund as well. We may have to go hide in a cut with brush and hope the fish are there just to survive the day.

Next weekend will be orders of magnitude worse with the BBB; they should be moving up in the evening by then and easy pickings EXCEPT for the 3000 bass anglers crappie fishing for the evening.....😏 Mike
Seth Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Pa He Tsi was shut down due to low water so we had to put in amongst the AiA madness at PB2. We ended up catching our two limits of mostly 10-11.5” fish with quite a few sows, but never did catch any tourney quality fish. That explains why there weren’t any crappiemaster boats in the area..... The wind was brutal. We ended up catching half of our fish shooting jigs on one dock and the other half came from vertical jigging various brush piles in the area that were in 15-25’ of water. grizwilson 1
buckcreekmike Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 Buddy and I cleaned 29 crappie yesterday and caught and released several other keepers. Pulled up on one dock and probably had 15 or more keepers. Shooting docks. It was windy and cold, we found some less windy stuff and caught them pretty darn good. 50-51 degree water. Deep side of dock sitting in about 12-13’ and bites were coming in what must have been 8’ deep water up under a lift. grizwilson, Seth and nomolites 3
Members fishin_addict Posted April 19, 2018 Members Posted April 19, 2018 Thanks for the reports guys! Gonna give the crappie a try this weekend if I can find an open stretch of bank or brush pile that doesn't have a BBB boat on it.

Fish evenings for sure; they will move up and the BBBers hafta be off the water. Mike
