Disney World coming to SW Missouri?

Recommended Posts

My neighbor and I went fishing Saturday, we were discussing how fast how fast this area was growing, and he made the claim that a new Disney World is being planned for SW MO. I haven't heard anything about this until he mentioned it. So, is he talking through his hat? Or is Disney planning on building a new resort?

Thats an old rumor, and apparently will never die. Personally I think its just that, an old baseless rumor. I don't think this area has the economic clout, location, or population to attract someone like Disney.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

The rumor started when a "company" with headquarters in southern California made some inquiries or requests about road widening in the Branson area. It was rumored to be Disney. But at this point that's all it is... rumor.

There is some speculation going on in the area that involves expansion of the airport or a new airport being built. I know one of the investors in that airport deal and he is not going to put any money in a project just for the fun of it. There must be something going on.

There was an article in the St. Louis paper about this subject with a Disney denial also with the article. I live in Troy IL., 18 miles east of St. Louis, and we had the same rumor about 15 years ago. I guess somethings never die :ninja:

The timeshare sales folks revive this rumor yearly. They have news articles and all.

It has somewhat died down and now the landing landing is the big pitch. I don't want to open up a can of worms but the landing is not much more than a bunch of over priced upscale outlets. I had to chuckle last summer when I found a pair of Nikes on sale...Same style shoe number etc for 35 dollars more than in my small hometown outlet store.

The landing is nice for an afternoon walk but has a long way to go to be a great attraction for most of Branson oriented folks.

It will probally bring in some conventions etc but for folks like me who have been coming to Branson yearly for the last 35 years it isn't much more than a diversion from what is really the attraction in Branson: Down to earth folks that value God, family, and America. Good clean fun and recreation for all ages.

Since I live fairly close to Joplin this is what I know. Hoax or someone pretending to associate themselves with the Disney name I really don't know. The local news ran a report on it just the other night and they interviewed people that claim they were approached by someone claiming affialation with Disney. They were offered twice the appraisal value on their property. Most of the land was near the road for access and most of the people didn't bite. However there was this one lady that said if the check didn't bounce she was out of there!

Every few years that RUMOR surfaces. Don't think the area has the personel to man a Disney, certainly not the 20 million people visitor base. I think Peter Hershiend (SP) on Ozarks Watch last week said there was a 9 million people visitor base for the area. Then you are dealing with weather cold in the winter. Maybe we can blame the slightly warmer weather on Disney changing that too.

There was a rumor like that years ago in Poplar Bluff, MO. Large land purchase, new interchanges, so on. Disney was going to build a mid America location and this was going to be it, centrally located hub with room to grow. I think they built a waterpark instead.
