Dutch Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Did not mean to offend you man. Just reporting. I catch a lot of fish between 30 and 60 feet deep down on Stockton. I saw a lot of bait fish out to 40 feet but could not get bites that deep yet. Where I was fishing there was no visible thermocline.

The spots that were good 1-2 weeks ago, are pretty slim pickins' now. The good mid-70*s trolling weather that I'd been looking forward to all summer is done and gone, just like the crappie spawn in the spring. I saw a lot of tiny shad flipping around the cove at Masters over shallow water, and bait balls in deep water too. -Austin
liphunter Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Wednesday I went into Maze creek. Not far from the main lake. Fished a little brush pile. Caught 18 shorts and one 14 inch. It was fun but didn't really put any fish in the fryer. Using minnows in 24 FOW bites coming in the 15 FOW of water area. Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
waterpossum Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 I was at the lake yesterday fishing from 8-4 out of Ruark. Started trying to beg a bass bite on a plopper to no avail. About 10 I went brush searching to try for crappie. I fished about 12 locations where I know brush exists. I had a small amount of luck at three spots. All were windy main lake points that have a sprinkling of scattered brush(not my ideal way to fish for crappie) I was able to catch 9 keepers and about that amount of smaller fish. Water temp was 66-67 with a high sky. I was using a blue and white or green and chartuese slab slayer jig on 1/16 jig head. The keepers I caught were 14-15' deep, but that was well off the bank. I really like the 9' Wally Marshall rod, so I can reach out further from the boat and can keep the trolling motor off the brush, esp that shallow. It's depressing to see the creek arms so low. I wish the corp would reconsider bringing the lake this low. Grand has a new summer lake level standard and it is on fire for slabs right now. liphunter 1
