Trout Pit

Who else is ready for the trout pit to be stocked again? If you hit it at the right time it makes for a good fun day. I'm getting my Bass Hound boat rigged up with a bigger trolling motor and plan on doing a lot of fishing on the public pits this year.

Where are you taking about?

they start in October - April ...they have a new brown trout reg and you must buy a stamp

and you can catch them year round, just need to fish around the deep springs

@Flysmallie if you haven't fished the trout pit make it a weekend trip to the Mined Land Wildlife Area and fish for crappie as well. It's well worth a small trip and fishing the trout pit can be a good time with a different kind of fishing.

I do need to make a trip over there sometime. Used to fish that area a bunch when I was a kid. But I would rather chase some bass over there when it's warm. Is camping allowed?

Yes. Primitive camping only.

I thought they rented cabins over there? I thought I saw that maybe?

There are a couple cabins you can rent right next to the trout pit. They look pretty nice but I've never stayed there myself.

My brother stays there about once a year. Hard to get reservations. Booked up like a year out.
