top_dollar Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I often use jerkbaits on the upper big river. They are my second most effective numbers lure. I love a size 8 or 10 xrap. Even a 110 megabass will work well for lots of dinks. I throw the little jerkbaits on a 5.5 foot dock shooting crappie rod, med light moderate fast. Full size jerkers get a 5.5 casting rod, med power moderate fast. I also pull the split ring off the nose and use a duolock snap. I have, however, had snaps fail.
Al Agnew Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I use duo-lock snaps. I've had the smallest size fail, so I use the next couple of sizes up. But if you look at a place like Tackle Warehouse, you'll see a whole bunch of duo-lock look-alikes that are probably better quality and less likely to fail if you're worried about that. Basically, I use snaps on pretty much all hard baits except spinnerbaits with the R bend to tie your line to. Crankbaits, topwaters, jerkbaits, and closed eye spinnerbaits, I use snaps on all of them. Just have to have the discipline to retie after an hour or two of use--the bad thing about snaps is that you change lures a lot without ever retying...which is also one of the good things about them.
Gavin Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I’d rather have a fresh knot tied to a $25 jerkbait, but to each their own. You might go through 2-3 jerkbaits to get bit if is really slow.

About half that is as expensive as I go with them.
top_dollar Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Most of mine are predator blank knockoffs. They work great at 3 bucks if you're willing to paint them. Mcksticks and rc stx are also good ones for a cheaper price.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 I got an old wiggle wart last year that had a snap on it and it wouldn't run correctly. Kept getting wedged sideways on the bill. Yanked is off. put on a split ring and it's been great.
