6/14 Report Little Sac side

Weather people said substantially more rain would be arriving the next few days and that was enough to motivate me to get in a quick trip before it got here....

Launched at Cedar Ridge South Friday morning about 10:30. Had run the wipers off and on along the way and as I left the ramp I donned my rain jacket to ward off some off the drizzle. Keeping

dry wasn't the only reason either...the lake air was chilly for a June day and the jacket felt good. There was a stiff SW breeze creating a 10" chop but the the predicted 20+ mph wind wasn't

happening...at least not yet! Started out fishing a fire-tiger stand-up jig with half a crawler off a point in 24-30 ft. It didn't take long before I had boated 2, 12"  channel cats then a 19" walleye.

The predicted wind now arrived and boat control was becoming challenging. Soon the sun came out and the jacket came off but it seemed like the bite was now off too. Switched to other jigs

and tried 2 more points and was rewarded with 2 more cats. By now I'd had enough so I decided to run downwind to Masters Cove and try trolling for crappie in the more protected back of the

creek. Pulled 2, #7's and 1, #9 Flicker-shads ... 2- Fire-tiger and 1 Pink Cougar. All three produced and 6 keeper crappie were boated plus 1 short. 

The crappie were suspended at 15 ft in 26- 30 ft of water. 

 

Conditions:

Lake Level- 884.6 ft. (about an inch higher than last week's trip, roughly 17.5 ft over normal pool) 

WT- 75 degrees on points and 77 in the creek

Clarity- 30"

Wind- SW  15-20 mph.

Cloudy with drizzle in late morning becoming warm (78 degrees) and sunny in the afternoon.

 

Even though he wouldn't lie still...I did manage a quick pic of "Walter" walleye. ☺️

I haven't been having much luck with walleye either.

Put in at Mutton tonight (if you're thinking about it, don't, the road is not steep enough). Jig and crawler all evening. Caught a dozen drum, from 1-4lbs, a couple small channel cars, and a bass. 

There were several fish that I saw separate from the bottom on the graph, sniff my jig, and leave. Tight lipped walleye?

No luck with walleye for me either, but I only caught 2 drum.  :-) 

The crappie were as per above.  After changing out colors more than once, I finally found 2 that they liked and got on them and at least went home with a full limit of crappie.  I actually had to throw back 2.  Caught one as I was pulling in the cranks after #15 and the last one that I caught was trolling for walleye and was probably 13 inches.  Not the biggest of the day, but a nice fish.   Pink was the color of the day for me as well.

Leave it to those finicky fish to add insult to injury! Sometimes I think the graphs tell us to much. 😉
