Devan S. Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Put in about 9 got a late start and figured it would be foggy and it still was when I got there. Pulled out about 3. Was really hoping to stumble into a striper. Had a good fish on a spoon on a hump in the middle of the lake but it pulled off. Was really pulling some drag and head shakes. Assume either catfish or walleye. Threw Arig, spoon, jerkbaits. Explored....found lots of timber in a couple areas....anyone every do any good on crappie near the dam? Finished the day with 2 spots that might have been 12" I want to say I saw WT of 51 but don't hold me to that. FWIW I may be the worst A-rig fishermen ever. I don't know how much time I've spent throwing it but have yet to catch a single fish on it. McguirePat, Quillback and Sore Thumbs 3

Quite often right below or behind the stripers, cleaning up the mess... I can't dance like I used to.
Quillback Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Ahhh, the old mystery fish that pulls off - I hate that when it happens. I caught a 17 lb. drum up by the dam a couple of years ago on a Ned rig, FWIW. There's crappie in the coves off Indian creek, I never have done much good on them but had a buddy that got into them pretty good a couple of years ago during the spawn. Did you see any striper surface activity?
Devan S. Posted December 24, 2019 Author Posted December 24, 2019 Didn't see any surface activity but I didn't show up early and it was a fog blanket for the first hour.

I like to throw them on light weight heads with a short shank. This gives the tail more action. I use Keitech 2.8inch in Pro blue and my Trailing bait is a 3.3 in a different color but is still natural looking. Try deep cuts off of the main lake with vertical walls. If that doesn’t work you might throw it over brush piles if you know of any. Quillback 1

I can't say I've ever gone as small as 2.8" Keitech but have used a lot of 3.3" or the 4.5" I may give the 2.8 a try.
Sore Thumbs Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Try midlake area. Like Ventris. It has a lot of vertical walls like I described. Commit to it and don’t put it down. You will catch something.
Members Jaguar 97 Posted December 25, 2019 Members Posted December 25, 2019 I went to Indian Creek Saturday and only saw one striper blow up. I did fish for crappie for awhile with no luck. I have caught them in the spring. Did catch 6 small bass. Launched at Ventris yesterday saw lots of bait but never caught a fish. Fished from coppermine to 12 bridge. I saw where they are really catching stripers up around hickory Creek. Quillback 1
Devan S. Posted December 25, 2019 Author Posted December 25, 2019 Yeah were closing in on river walleye on table rock so it may be awhile before I head back to Beaver.....really want to catch a striper so will probably pick it back up after March.
