Members Frankenstien Posted June 18, 2020 Members Posted June 18, 2020 Hi all, I'm heading down to Beaver lake in early/mid July with the wife's family and would like to get some fishing in. I'm used to fishing central MO lakes where 2-3 feet of water clarity is considered clear as it gets, so Beaver Lake is a whole new animal to me. I'd like to get on some crappie, but catching anything is always good. We are staying at an Air BNB on Big Clifty. Its a pretty solid 1.5-2 hr drive to any ramp except Big Clifty, so i plan on putting in there and parking the boat at the house and motoring from there. Any info or hints on this area of the lake would be much appreciated. Thanks
Lance34 Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Was up that way last Saturday... We caught 27 crappie casting and dipping at submerge trees. Just look for visible group of trees in 35-25 fow and use your electronics to find the ones submerge that are holding fish. Figure out the depth the top of the tree is and get back about 30-40 feet away. Cast over it and count down in seconds then slowly crank over the top. Like a 1/16 or 1/8oz paddle tail lure. Natural colors If you can be quite and slowly work your way to the tree. Use a longer dipping pole and drop a minnow down on them. We cheated a bit with livescope to be more efficient with lure placement but that’s how I would go after them without use of it. Lot of trees in those hollers you’ll have to look at a lot of them to find which one has fish. If you find one that does if they don’t bite don’t waste much time with them. Tree that is loaded your good for about 4 or 5 fish and then you’ll have to leave it. Just saying be efficient with your time... Go early and be off by noon before the water fleas run you over.. Ron Burgundy Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Listen to Lance he KNOWS!......I couldn’t believe the good crappie you guys pulled out of the North end !.....Frankenstein when you launch from Big Clifty go left and head toward Hogscald holler there is standing timber near the that ramp and I’ve caught crappie in that area but like Lance said go early that part of the lake necks down and turns into a party cove. Members Greg B. Posted July 8, 2020 Members Posted July 8, 2020 Lance is certainly the expert. I can’t help you much with that end of the lake but I have been fishing the South end quite a bit. If I can find shad balls I can usually find crappie. On the south end the water is not as clear as it is up north. Most of my fish have been in 13-20 fow. I’m typically fishing at about 10 feet but go up or down depending on what I see on the sonar. I suspect the crappie will be deeper on the North end as Lance has said. Good luck!
