Saltwater rod/reel advice.

I use a lews custom inshore reel for reds/trout, and a custom inshore spinning reel also.  I have been very happy. 

I do not recommend hosing down reels with freshwater unless you dunk one in saltwater.

Live in Rockport, TX and fish for reds and trout all the time. Fly fishing I have a 9' 8wt. Most fly fishing for the reds is site casting to cruising or tailing reds it is a blast. Throwing plastics I use a bait casting reel with a 7 ft. rod similar to a flipping rod. I can throw a popping cork with the bait caster however, it is a lot easier with a spinning rod and a reel in the 3000 or 4000 range. When I am done fishing I spray reel magic on a rag and wipe everything off. If the reel gets dunked it is taken apart and cleaned otherwise the saltwater will corrode the inside of the reel.

I had to be in town for labs, dr. and poison  today so I stopped at Johnny place.  Found a St. Croix Bass Mojo, 7'1" spinning rod that spoke to me.  Medum power/fast action, but seems pretty stiff for a medium.  And the handle doesn't have that extra length wasted in the handle, it is shorter, light, and kind of purplish in color.  I should have bought it, but didnt.  Should make a great walleye jig rod too.  Now for a real currently looking to hold a Diawa BG 3000 size, dang things aren't easy to see in person, may look at academy tomorrow as I have to go to different dr up north.

My medium Salt combo is a 7' M St. Croix Premier with an Okuma 30 reel spooled with 15 lb mono.  Happy with it but never had anything over maybe 10 lbs on the business end.  Okuma is well known for a good drag.  I agree.

Which model Okuma?  They range from Walmart level to WTH $ level.

I spent about $100 on the one I have.  I'll look at it later and see if I can find model number.  Edit:  It's a Trio 30.  $80 at Tackle Direct.  Been a good reel for me.  Also, the rod is actually a 6'6" MF premier.

The Mojo Bass rod I was after, appears to have a 1 piece or 2 piece option.  Other than traveling I can't come up with a good reason for a two piece, of course that is what I am gonna do with it so . . .     Also am gonna stop at Scheels in KC on way home, forgot there was one even there.  Saw it on Google maps while looking for a place for lunch.

My experience with Daiwa reels has been good--always. I still use a pair of SS 1300 spinning reels I bought when they first came out in the...'80s(?).  The revised BG series should be rock solid.

My Daiwa BG is my favorite reel out of the 50 or so I have.

I still have an OLD Diawa BG 13 from the early 80s maybe.  No instant reverse but it is a big ole tough reel.  It was my dad's is the main reason I still have it, and honestly I wouldn't be afraid to put it on a new rod and head for the saltwater with it.  If that kills it, well then it will have died a good death.
