Definitely interesting. If he downsized and fished tandem microjig/flies with a tiny trailer fly ala @Ham he could have caught a lot more species in a 15 week period. This challenge was more targeted towards those "game fish".

Pretty fun little contest...gets some anglers out of their comfort zone a bit...gets them to learn about and try for fish species they might otherwise not make time for. 😃

If you haven't figure this out yet, I am always one to take on a multispecies challenge. I would even drag out the long rod if it was needed ;). Though the rabbit bit through my fly line after my last fishing trip with the long rod and I still have to retie on a leader. Just a reminder to put my stuff away I guess .

Ha ha, OK...at first I envisioned a backcast into the vegetation behind you, where a rabbit pounced on and bit through your line.  But I'm assuming now that you have a pet rabbit?

We had one.  Beautiful black male.  It chewed through a lamp cord in our living room and got shocked.  After that, it would occasionally get random convulsions.  Sad to watch.  We were at the pet store and mentioned it to the store owner.  We showed him a picture of it, and he WANTED THAT RABBIT for breeding purposes.  So...our rabbit ended up at a stud farm, which probably made him pretty darn happy!

We've had so many different kinds of pets.  In addition to the rabbit, we've had:  dog, cats, ferret, rat, chinchillas, cockatiels, lovebirds, turtle, hermit crabs, bearded dragons, African clawed frogs, bettas, all kinds of freshwater aquarium fish....  Now we just have one cat.

15 species in 15 weeks was the contest...

Yeah, I feel like you'd take a couple days to put your game plan together, then have your 15 species in short order...and wonder what to do with yourself for the remaining 14.5 weeks! 😁

I agree that 15 species in two days is possible without really pushing.

Biggest fish (=biggest man) contest is my take away. Maybe it's just my perspective but everything TU seems blown way out of proportion, like the challenge of long ear on a long rod.   Although taking catfish other than bullhead on fly or drum or carp hasn't happened to me yet, I haven't really targeted them. I've taken 6-7 species in an hour many times and have no idea of how many species total as often I'm not sure of or just don't know what they are. Like right now, I can't recall what makes a smallmouth into a Neosho smallmouth; I'll have to look that up again.

Location first - Neosho's are located in SWMO and NE OK and SE KS. Spring river, Elk river, Indian creek, Neosho river, etc. should have them. One key feature is that they have a bulldog appearance with the lower jaw jutting out slightly. Others @Chief Grey Bear on this forum know much more about these guys than I do.
