LittleRedFisherman Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 The past week has been a fun one for my son Landen and I. It started out on a trip to our cabin last Thursday, the goal at first was to catch a good mess of crappie. I brought minnows trolling rods, jig rods, even a portable cleaning table as our confidence was high. Turned out the crappie bite was slow, and I’m questioning how many crappie are on our little lake right now? So we had a change of plan and that Friday afternoon we hit a local river there looking for some bass, be it smallies or green ones. When we hit the river the bite was slow but we were picking off a few here and there and finally got a couple pretty good ones. However an hour before dark as it was starting to get cold the fishing turned on, I think the lower light was helping us as the water is getting really clear in our rivers down here. After our cabin trip was over we came home about the time my daughter and son in law came in for the holidays as he is in the Air Force. My son in laws little brother has a coupon of beagles and these boys love to rabbit hunt, I used to have dogs and ran rabbits back in the day but it’s been 20 years. So I told them I have a lot of farms with good fence rows around here that used to have rabbits 25 years ago. Well turns out they still do, we had a blast and hearing those hounds brought me back to my childhood. We got 10 rabbits in 2 days of hunting, I basically followed them with a side by side and leT them do most of the shooting. I was basically coaching Landen who is 12 in gun safety and proper ways to hunt with dogs. After the 2nd day he had it down Pat pretty well and those dogs done a fantastic job! So got to do my 2.....actually 3 favorite things. Catch smallies , hunt rabbits and enjoy the outdoors with my son, to me that is heaven on earth. Merry Christmas my OA friends and God Bless nomolites, BilletHead, timinmo and 4 others 7 There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
