The marina is empty and no work has been done on it at all. They have a small bait shop in the city utility building up on the north side of the parking lot. They didn’t have anything in there yet other than snacks and drinks but you can get your new permits for the year up there. The guy working there said he would have some lures and stuff in there soon. As far as live bait all they will have is crickets and worms. I asked about minnows and he said they will not be selling minnows because they are not a native species and that if we want live bait we need to get a cast net and get our bait that way. So needless to say if your going crappie fishing and want some minnows you need to get them elsewhere and bring them up with you. I got the same response when I visited the new 'shop' (currently virtually empty of usable fishing gear). I don't know what they think they're accomplishing with this. The ship on non-native minnows sailed decades ago. The lake/river is full of non-native species, so selling minnows that weren't there in the 1800's is accomplishing nothing. So folks will source their minnows elsewhere and guess what, they're probably non-native as well. I'm not a big minnow buyer on this lake so it's not a huge factor to me, but I find it kind of dumb. What I think this actually is about is they don't want to have to take care of minnows and the the life support they require. And they don't want the minnow aroma in their clean new 'shop.' The new people running the shop are not anglers, me thinks.
3DHUSKER Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Fellows has turned into a bike and kayak park. They are chasing the new fad. No time for minnows. Fishing was so last decade.

Ramp etiquette is lacking at times on Fellows, and increasingly it's the newbie kayakers that can't understand the concept of put your boat in the water and get out of the way of others waiting for the ramp.

Why would a kayaker need to use the ramp there? Plenty of room east of the ramp to drop your boat and get out of the way.

Don't have to, but unless the narrative has changed (doubt it with still being owned by City Utilities) since you have to get a permit they say you can only put in at the ramp area (what that means to individuals can vary I'm sure). I got chewed out about this once, but didn't pay too much attention to the reasoning since it wasn't very logical. Same thing with being open at "sunrise" or whenever the guy wakes up from an early morning nap and see that his phone says it has passed sunrise. I live close to Fellows and have a kayak, though it would be a place I frequented, but has always been too much of a hassle. The off limits areas are a joke, not due to the water source needs, but I assume legality/liability concerns. Bass Yakker 1

But there is plenty of room to drop your kayak on the other side of the courtesy dock without being in the way of the ramp. Done it that every single time I have taken my kayak out there.
