I don't think you are understanding what I'm telling you to do.

That black vinyl "sock" that the two wires are inside of.......Split it and cut it out of there (just be careful to not cut into the wires).   Once that crap is removed the 2 wires will pull right out of that fancy unreplaceable grommet.

You are absolutely correct, I was missing that.

Did have a Ranger guy tell me it has some kind of clip on the back that has to be opened. This one is so old it may be gone entirely. Sure didn't see any clip last night.

Appreciate it, though, as always.

So, in case anyone else has this part...there's no clip. Or not exactly. The thing sort of snaps together around the wires, then expands back to lock it in the hole. You could push and pull all day with it snapped, and they'd never budge. No feeding it through from either side of the panel or plate.

Not sure it's right, but what worked for me was squeezing the back with pliers, while using a screwdriver on the front to force it through before it could expand again. Then you can pop it open.

Engineer who designed that needs a good stomping. It also puts a hideous bend in your TM wires. Almost looks like you ran them through a Z bender. You wouldn't think that would be good for them, but it ran for 15 years, and still sort of does. 0322212246a_copy_873x1164.jpg

A look at it from the underside. Wires go in the notch, then make a crazy right angle bend to go through the panel.

That cannot be good for wire. Obviously that's where the cap doo dad fits.

Good clean fun right there.

That's some rediculous crap right there.     I mean..... WHY?

I have no idea. Why not just have some sort of grommet/boot that it would run straight through without bending the wires? Makes no sense, but it did work for a long time.

Have to figure out a better answer when the motors get here (yeah, bought two, for now anyway).

One of the strangest parts I have seen on a bass boat. Has that over-engineered look about it, a solution in need of a problem.

Replacing it with one of these two, depending on what wiggles together better. Factory piece, minus the right angle garbage, plus a rubber grommet. Or this round computer cap doo dad.0327211329_copy_1396x1861.jpg

Had to reuse the factory piece. Turns out the cutouts don't match evenly enough for the round version, and too minimal of a difference to hole saw without shredding things.

Wasn't in the mood to fiddle with opening the hole more gently.
