Members goosetalk Posted March 31, 2021 Members Posted March 31, 2021 We are likely taking a family vacation in early July to Branson. One of the first things in the back of my mind was "Wonder if I can get away for a few hours later in the evening....." Never been down to Taney before, only trout from the parks. Bass fish plenty at night so have that experience. Also duck hunt so very used to wading in the dark, even in current. I have plenty of time to search the forum for tackle set ups and conditions I could be faced with and I will do so, but figure I would ask here for any tips or information about the wading area and facing it for the first time at night. I will plan on scope it out during daylight to make myself familiar with the lay of the bank and gravel bars and such. Thanks in advance. JestersHK 1
JestersHK Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 You'll really be at the mercy of the generation pattern in July. You can wade with up to 2 units flowing but if Taney goes over 707ft it gets tough. Bring a buddy if you can. It can get a bit hairy with 2 units with strong current. If you luck into some low flows at night fishing can be stellar though. Jigs and jerk baits are my poison, but stripping streamers and wooly buggers on the fly rod can produce as well. Post a heads up on here when it gets closer and if any of the Night crews around I'm sure they'd give ya some pointers. Daryk Campbell Sr and Johnsfolly 2
Jhoff Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Ive had my best luck at night when there is zero generation and I take my kayak out. If that is a possiblity you should serioulsy consider it. I usually just throw jigs but have caught them on jointed rapalas or torpedos of all things as well. Daryk Campbell Sr and JestersHK 2
Members goosetalk Posted April 7, 2021 Author Members Posted April 7, 2021 Thanks for the info. It will be one of those deals where I might get the chance to go if the kids get settled down early enough. Since I would not have a partner I was curious how many do fish at night so at least someone would be around in case of a problem. JestersHK 1
JestersHK Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 In summer time there is def more folks out at night. Only a few of us are dumb enough to chase em at night in the winter... Depends on the bite and the flow though. Can sometimes be crowded even during the weekend. Post up when it's closer to when you're going. If I'm free I'll do a turn and burn and meet ya down there if you'd like. You can get the 1 fish guarantee like all the rest. Daryk Campbell Sr and Johnsfolly 2
Devan S. Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I don't know how it will be in July but I know in early September is was very, very foggy. Legit foggy enough that you can cast or nearly move around into people without knowing. I always liked to be there right at dark. The problem with that is its crazy hot still and you're putting on waders. By midnight, I was always chilled and had to start adding clothes(sweats/light jacket) under my waders.
