Blll Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 While I'm usually coming back to the dock around 9-10 am, that's when we went out. I did not expect to catch much but wanted to get out for a couple hours. While fishing from the front of the boat throwing ned, deep cranks, and spoons, I zeroed. My son, fishing off the stern, smoked me with 6 bass, 4 keepers including a smallie just shy of 3#s. He was fishing a 2.8 keitech on a 1/16 oz jig swimming it fast. He saw most of the bites and several hit it multiple times. We were in about 20-25 fow and the temp was 83. We fished for just over an hour and he got a work call but caught one on his last cast. it was 10:45 and hot. I've not fished that way but will certainly try it next time out. Any opinions on Hamby vs Keel guard? Or any other brand. I know you get what you pay for but the difference is substantial. MarkG52 and dan hufferd 2
Members Phil S Posted June 16, 2021 Members Posted June 16, 2021 Any Thermocline forming already? The caffeine shads have been working pretty good for me, but have been in shallower water. I figured they would move deeper as hot as it's been lately. I take it by the water depth you were fishing points? @Bill
Quillback Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 I have a Hamby, it has been on my boat for 9 years and it is still snug and secure. I have no experience with the Keel Guard brand. Might need to try fishing the Keitechs a little faster myself. I always let them drop and slow roll them.
Dutch Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 They are both good. I have always used keel guard. It is the brand that we carried in the shop when I got my Champion. My current one was put on by Championship Marine. It has been on 6 years. If my memory is correct Hamby uses some type of glue that doubles the installation time.

Blll Posted June 18, 2021 Author Posted June 18, 2021 Mid lake, around Bear island. Not the sheer bluff wall, just past it. Seemed about 100 yards of action.
