I'm not sure when Wright & McGill rods were first labeled "Eagle Claw" (the parent company) but think it was when production moved off shore, I do know that the old brown rods of the '70s are much different than the yellow ones of the '90s. I fish more with 'glass than graphite and have a few favorites but only one 5wt and that's a 6'6" Phillipson. I much prefer the 7wts for their versatility.

Odd to me that people think of those noodle rods as "buggy whips", a buggy whip is stiff as rebar except the 12" lash. Typical Sage rods remind me more of a whip.

Did W and M make some white rods?  That rings a bell and we had some old rods that were white.  Ok, how about fairy wand?? 😁

White 'glass fly rods are most likely Shakespeare, although some others did make some, Wonderod  was the brand trademark. Some were real good rods but it seems to me that the Shakespeare rods all weighed more than other brands. They were the first to build fiberglass fly rods and IRRC the first to build graphite fly rods as well.
